ICT Project implementation (1992-1997) at the School of Engineering and Science of the University of Chile (Information and Communication Technology Center).

First ATM Service Network in Latin America is inaugurated at the University of Chile (Aug 1994).

AccessNova Project is inaugurated during Chile President Eduardo Frei�s visit to NTT Kasumigaseki Center in Tokyo, during his first official visit to Japan (Nov 1994). The program is led in Chile by ICT of the School of Engineering and Science of the University of Chile and in Japan by NTT Research Laboratories in Musashino, Tokyo.

Consulting Contract is signed with SONDA S.A. to perform a study about �Multimedia in Japan� (Jan 1995).

Pro-Chile Project to create the first interactive website with remote access to Chile Export Information (Dec 1995).

Tecnon�utica Ltda. is established as a Santiago-based start-up technology company, with academic links to the University of Chile (1996).

First ATM Experimental Network in Chile is inaugurated at the School of Engineering and Science of the University of Chile (Jan 1996).

First Digital Video Transmission over IP at the inauguration of the first AccessNova offices in Santiago in presence of Dr. Toshiharu Aoki, Vice President NTT R&D, and Dr. Jaime Lavados, President, University of Chile (May 1996).

CONICYT-Chile Grant awarded: FONDEF Project D96I1064 on �Infocommunication in Broadband Networks� (1997-2000).

Chile-Japan Centennial Activities (Aug-Sep 1997):

- Teleforum on Remote Astronomy with Japanese and Chilean Researchers in Tokyo (NTT Labs-Musashino) and Santiago (UChile Gorbea Auditorium) becomes the first broadband videoconference experiment successfully performed between Chilean and Japan (Aug 1997).

- Telecabinet Meeting of Chile President Eduardo Frei with Cabinet Members in Tokyo (NTT Kasumigaseki) and Santiago (UChile Gorbea Auditorium) held during his second official visit to Japan (Sep 1997).

International Conference of the Telecommunication Information Network Architecture Consortium (TINA�97) hosted in Santiago (Nov 1997).

Contract is signed with NTT (Global Business Headquaters) to study and analyze the �Technical and Business Feasibility of Broadband Services in Chile and Latin America� (1998).

Contract is signed with CTC Mundo (later known as Telef�nica Mundo) to design and develop prototype �Virtual Offices: Kiosks for Remote Customer Assistance and Support via Videoconference� (1998-1999).

Contract is signed with NTT (Multimedia Networks Laboratories) to develop a �Prototype Software System to handle Video transmission over IP with Quality of Service� (1999).

CORFO-Chile First Grant awarded to create Emprenet (later known as AccessNova Incubator), the first university-sponsored �High Technology Enterprise Incubator� at the School of Engineering and Science of the University of Chile, in in partnership with INTEC and Tecnon�utica (1998-1999).

Consulting Contract is signed with United Technologies Corporation (Hartford, CT, USA) to develop a prototype system for �Remote Control and Monitoring over IP�(1999-2000).

International Conference of the International Telecommunications Union (ITU-T) Study Group 16 on �Multimedia Networks and Applications Standardization� hosted in Santiago (May 1999).

�International Workshop on Multimedia Networks and Applications� co-organized by University of Chile and Waseda University (May 1999).

SMaL Camera Technologies Inc. (adquired by Cyprus Semiconductor in 2005 and a year later by Sensata Corp.) is established as a Massachusetts-based start-up company to design and fabricate an ultra-thin digital camera based on proprietary auto-brite technology, establishing strong academic links with MIT and the University of Chile (AccessNova)for key hardware and software development respectively (2000).

Consulting Contract is signed with ESO (European Southern Observatory) to analyze and design a �Technology Solution to Provide a Robust Connectivity for all its facilities: Garching-Vitacura-La Silla� (2000-2001).

Consulting Contract is signed with NRAO (National Radioastronomy Observatory of the USA) to study and analyze �Electromagnetic Spectrum Protection Conditions required for the ALMA Project� (2000-2001).

Consulting Contract is signed with Codelco-Chile (El Teniente Division) to design an �Integrated Communication System to handle video, voice, data and control signals in a Scalable Platform� (2001).��

AccessNova Program becomes integral part of the Computer Science Department (DCC)at the School of Engineering and Science of the University of Chile (Jan 2000).

First AccessNova Forum on �Advanced Communications for the Global Information Age�, Easter Island Symposium, is held in the South Pacific, Chile (May 2000).

Consulting Contracts are signed with SMaL Camera Technologies Inc. (Cambridge, MA, USA) to develop different prototype systems for the �Remote Operation of an ultra-small digital camera� (2001-2004).

CONICYT-Chile Grant awarded: FONDEF Project D00I1048 on �Development of Multimedia Communications over Wireless Networks� (2001-2003).

CONICYT-Chile Grant awarded: FONDEF Project D00T1048/2048 on �Marketing and Sales Development of IP Videoconference System� (2001-2003).

VIPnova S.A. is established as a Santiago-based start-up technology company to provide advanced videoconference (telepresence) services, with academic links to the University of Chile (Aug 2006).

GEMnet-Galaxy/Second AccessNova Forum on �Advanced Communication and Information Technologies to bridge Asia and South America�, Hakone and Musashino Symposium, is held in Tokyo, Japan (May 2002).

CORFO-Chile Second Grant awarded to �Develop an Incubation Model for Knowledge-based Enterprises� at the AccessNova Incubator (formerly Emprenet) of the School of Engineering and Science of the University of Chile (2001-2002).

CORFO-Chile Third Grant awarded to �Extend the Incubation Model to Scalable Technology Solutions of National Impact� at the AccessNova Incubator of the School of Engineering and Science of the University of Chile (2002-2003).

Consulting Contract is signed with DIBAM to support the design and implementation of �Biblioredes: aNational Public Library Network�, a three year project sponsored by the Chilean government and the Melinda and Bill Gates Foundation to provide internet connectivity to the public library system (2002-2005).��

Consulting Contract is signed with Codelco-Chile (Corporate Headquarters) to study and analyze the �Value-added generated by the use of Advanced ICT Services in the Mining Industry�(2002).��

Third AccessNova Forum on �Advanced Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) for Next Generation Remote Astronomy, Intelligent Mining and Other Natural Resources Industries�, Torres del Paine Symposium, is held in Patagonia, Chile (May 2004).

WorldBank-Infodev Grant awarded to � Strengthen the Relevant Factors of Enterprise Incubation in Chile� by investigating and documenting the best practices at the AccessNova Incubator of the School of Engineering and Science of the University of Chile (2002-2003).

AccessNova Program is split into AccessNova Research and AccessNova Incubation which become integral part of the Electrical Engineering Department (DIE-UChile)and the Industrial Engineering Department (DII-UChile) respectively (Aug 2005).

GEMnet2/Fourth AccessNova on �Global Challenges for Next Generation Networks�, Nagasaki Symposium, is held in Kyushuu, Japan (May 2006).

SoluNova Ltda. is established as a Santiago-based start-up technology company to provide advanced applications of RFID technology, with academic links to the University of Chile (Aug 2006).

Novaware Inc is established as a New York-based start-up technology company to design, integrate and provide remote healthcare technology, establishing academic links with the University of Chile (AccessNova), Columbia University and Cornell University (Aug 2006).

Research Agreement Contract is signed with SkillUpJapan Corporation (Tokyo, Japan) to develop an �Open Source Platform for Remote Healthcare� in collaboration with NovaWare Inc. (Jan 2008).

Fifth AccessNova Forum on �Ubiquitous Networks for New Advanced Applications�, Puc�n Symposium, is planned to be held in the southern lake region, Chile (May 2008).
